EcoClear Products for Ammonia and Nitrite Reduction

EcoClear is a line of products and systems that reduce nutrients such as ammonia and nitrites, improving water quality and reducing organic sediment in ponds and wastewater lagoons by introducing vast numbers of nitrifying bacteria. Lowering ammonia and nitrites is important in wastewater treatment facilities in order to avoid effluent violations, and improve the aquatic environment in the receiving stream. Water clarity is also important in applications such as wastewater treatment plants that contain a stabilization pond or other large lagoon unit. These wastewater lagoons often have suspended solids that cause effluent violations (high suspended solids, BOD, phosphate, pH). By reducing suspended solids, the treatment plant is able to meet permit effluent limits.

Larger EcoClear applications may include a Bioreactor System provided on-site.  These systems can improve the cost-effectiveness of EcoClear products. Each Bioreactor System is simple to operate and requires no special training or maintenance. Please refer to the page describing our bioreactor systems. EcoClear products can also be sold as ready-to-use products for smaller applications.

Ammonia and nitrite reduction technology is a major part of our product line.

El Dorado Chemical Company uses EcoClear products in their wastewater treatment lagoons to improve plant performance and effluent quality.

Wastewater treatment superintendents face a challenging problem in meeting permit limits when ammonia and other nutrients are above effluent limits in nutrient rich treatment ponds, resulting in elevated suspended solids and BOD levels. Excessive suspended solids contribute to sludge accumulation, which may require costly dredging and disposal. Typical non-biologic treatments introduce harsh and costly chemicals into the facility, and work against the bacterial action within the treatment ponds.

 Summary Description

EcoClear works by introducing nitrifying bacteria that consume nutrients in the water and specialized bacteria that are effective in digesting organic sediment. The bacterial species involved include:

  • Bacillus subtilis

  • Bacillus amyloliquiefaciens

  • Nitrosomonas europaea

  • Nitrobacter winogradskyi

  • Cellulomonas biazotea

The key mechanism of the EcoClear product is to introduce bacteria that are effective in consuming ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and soluble orthophosphate. In the EcoClear product there are both nitrifying and heterotrophic bacteria. All of these bacteria will assimilate N and P and incorporate it via cell growth and reproduction. Through nitrification, denitrification, and rapid growth on soluble pollutants, EcoClear bacteria will improve wastewater treatment water quality, and improve digestion of organic sediment and sludge.

EcoClear is available as either a ready to use product, or as  bioreactor systems that enable processing of  bacteria on site, resulting in a very cost effective solution to reduce nutrients such ammonia and phosphorus.  The result is improved wastewater treatment, and avoidance of permit violations for ammonia, suspended solids, pH, and BOD.

Use of the EcoClear System takes little time, and the procedures for mixing and application are easy to include into a weekly program. We will design a system specifically for your treatment ponds and the special conditions at your facility. Our system has been successfully used for controlling ammonia and suspended solids in ponds of varying sizes for over 25 years.

Along with EcoClear, ESI has a number of other products and systems to optimize performance of wastewater treatment facilities.

EcoBac products improve the digestion of grease and sludge within sewer lines and lift stations, and municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. Other products include Sulf-X, a unique product that inhibits the formation of sulfide gas, which aside from causing offensive orders, is corrosive to treatment components and can be detrimental to efficient digestion of organic matter in wastewater and in sludge digestion facilities. EcoSocks are also a very effective product for some wastewater applications.

Mena Wastewater Treatment Plant has used an EcoClear Bioreactor System since 2005 to improve nitrification and effluent quality.

 Grease, Sludge and BOD Reduction

EcoBac System  –  A Specialized Formulation of Bacteria and Nutrients to Improve the Solubilization and Digestion of Organic Waste

Wastewater treatment professionals must deal with the buildup of grease and sludge in municipal and industrial treatment and collection system components. This situation requires costly mechanical removal and disposal of grease and sludge, and can impact the performance of treatment and collection facilities.

The EcoBac system is an improvement of patented technology. With our products and systems you receive completely natural, non-engineered bacteria and enzymes that have been selected for their ability to solubilize and digest grease and sludge. The EcoBac system involves the use of a bioreactor tank and a supply of dried bacteria and nutrients along with the technology to grow vast numbers of specific bacteria and enzymes at the site for easy and cost-effective dosage to the treatment and collection components as needed.

Advantages of the EcoBac System

  • Final effluent will be improved.

  • Changes in plant operations will not be necessary.

  • Only non-pathogenic, non-hazardous, non-toxic bacteria and enzymes in vast numbers will be introduced.

  • Only minutes per day are required to dose EcoBac products.

  • EcoBac products improve the digestion of grease and sludge within sewer lines and lift stations.

EcoBac Product Dose Charts

The EcoBac Systems are designed to solubilize and digest grease, fat, and sludge. Our current formula has grease, fat and sludge reduction all in one product. Below are the dosage rates for the 3 products: EcoBac I, II, and III.

EcoBac I. One bag will treat up to 1,250,000 gallons per day. Unlike other production, it does not need to go in every single day, depending on the type of plant. EcoBac I requires the use of 55-gallon bioreactor tank. The system usually operates on a 48-hour cycle, so if you use 3 bags per week, you can use one tank, but to go with 7 does per week, you must have 2 tanks. The recommended dosage chart follows:

EcoBac II. This product is meant for between 1.25 MGD up to 6.25 MGD. As opposed to EcoBac I, EcoBac II requires the use of a 250-gallon bioreactor tank for each batch. The recommended dosage chart follows:

EcoBac III. This product is meant for between 6.25 MGD up to 12.5 MGD. EcoBac III requires the use of a 500 gallon bioreactor tank for each batch. The recommended dosage chart follows:

EcoSocks Products for Convenient Slow Release Treatment in Waste Lines

Wastewater treatment superintendents face a challenging problem in maintenance of pump stations and sewer lines. Despite pretreatment efforts, grease build-up in sewer lines and lift stations in inevitable. This build-up causes two major problems. First, expensive and sometimes dangerous manual cleaning and pumping is required to ensure that the station works correctly. Second, grease build-up contributes to odors, including sulfide. At last, Eco Scientific, Inc. (ESI) offers a simple solution to these problems.

ESI introduces EcoSocks, your most cost-effective solution to sewer line and lift station grease build-up problems. EcoSocks are unlike anything previously available. They contain powdered mixtures of specialized bacteria and nutrients, which together digest grease and scum. But the patent-pending EcoSocks also contain a unique, pH buffered slow-release oxygen source. This means that with EcoSocks, you actually produce huge numbers of active, grease-digesting bacteria inside the product container without costly bioreactors.

EcoSocks are packaged in a convenient natural fiber bag and include an attached 12-foot tether. To install an EcoSock, simply tie the tether to a rail or post, and let the EcoSock stay submerged in wastewater where they are most needed.

EcoSocks provide constant release of grease-digesting bacteria and last up to 8 weeks before replacement. That means only minutes per month are needed to use the EcoSocks properly. Nothing is as easy and as effective as EcoSocks.

To see how cost-effective EcoSocks can be at your facility, simply complete the worksheet. EcoSocks have solved grease problems in municipal and industrial wastewater application worldwide. ESI offers technical support for EcoSock use, as well as a full range of systems and products for the wastewater treatment market.
